01 / OUR PLAYGROUND
Race location counts. Home address doesn’t.
Velo Rank ranks road, track and cyclocross performances at approved venues within 75 miles of Columbus Circle, Manhattan (40.7681, -73.9819). Distance is straight-line great-circle distance, not driving distance.
Riders can live anywhere. Admin may override venue or individual event eligibility. Approved venues pass their eligibility to later events unless an event override applies.
02 / EVERY FINISH COUNTS
Transparent, provisional scoring.
Active rule: Provisional V1 · v1 · 2026 Season. Every result stores its base score, modifiers and final calculation.

Field size
Observed starters include FINISH, DNF and DQ. DNS riders do not count. Source-provided field size can exceed observed rows when an export is incomplete.
- 0+ starters: ×0.80
- 10+ starters: ×1.00
- 30+ starters: ×1.10
- 60+ starters: ×1.20
Field strength: ×1.00. Discipline modifiers: Road ×1.00. Track ×1.00. Cyclocross ×1.00. These values are provisional and configurable.
Tied finishes and nonfinishers
Tied riders each receive the average base points for the places they occupy. Two riders tied for second average second and third points; the next place is fourth. DNF, DNS and DQ earn zero finishing points. A disabled field also earns zero.
Equal season totals are ordered by wins, podiums, earliest most recent event date, then a stable rider ID. Wins and podiums count official tied positions. Race count means distinct event days; starts may include multiple fields.
03 / ONE PERFORMANCE. MANY CLASSIFICATIONS.
Combined fields stay combined.
A Cat 3 rider finishing third in a Men Cat 1/2/3 race scores for third in the actual field. We do not manufacture a separate category placing. Category rankings filter historical category at the event; later upgrades never rewrite old results.
Overall, gender, category and discipline views use the same authoritative performance points. Masters and juniors use supplied birth year or explicitly classified age fields. Birth-year ages use season year. Unknown ages are not inferred. A junior field without a precise age limit can appear in Juniors overall, but not a guessed U17 or U15 leaderboard.
Teams and name variants
Team standings sum the same authoritative points from performances attributed to that team at the event. A rider transfer changes current affiliation, not past race points. Confirmed team aliases consolidate spelling variants; similar names require admin review. Independent performances remain individual. Team ties use points, wins, podiums, then stable team ID. This team scoring method is provisional.
Awards are performance points, so a rider competing in multiple separately scored fields can earn points from each actual performance.
04 / KEEP IT ACCURATE
Review before publication.
Imports preserve the original source privately and remain unpublished until admin review. Uncertain rider matches require a decision. Confirmed aliases are remembered; teams never establish rider identity.
Scoring changes create a new version. Admin activation recalculates the season and switches its authoritative version together. Corrections should be reviewed against the source by the race promoter or platform administrator, with audit records retained. Report a result issue →
